A wise traveler will remember this:
Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
John Hughes hit that nail right on the head with this seminal quote from Ferris Buller’s Day Off. Ironically, even though it appears sometimes that my life is just a series of wonderful days off, it has been moving rather fast as of late. So, fast, it would seem that I have fallen behind on the simple act of blogging.
A few months ago, I made the decision to fully allow myself to pursue the life of a traveling yogi and student of Trust. Opening up to the grace found in every moment, it would seem, requires a certain level of daily presence and persistence. Being yourself is a full-time job, one that I plan to reward myself handsomely for. When you are you own boss, you can choose to do that.
However, making a choice is just one step in the whole dance routine. I’m still choreographing the whole performance while practicing what I’ve learned. It’s an interesting process.
All this being said, I’m in the business of sharing experiences. However, there is an art to staying focused on being in the moment while taking time to reflect, translate, and pass along my experiences. Consider this a hammering out some of highlights to catch up to the present day.
Ready, set, FLOW.
August started off with a delicious chocolate, and yoga retreat at Avalon Hot Springs just north of Calistoga. I thoroughly enjoyed the group of people who came out to enjoy the healing waters. Highlights included delicious home-made food from the organic garden, lots of soaking, and great weather. Stuff like this happened:
I headed down to LA for a week at the beginning of August, teaching workshops and falling into deep curiosity. Everything that happened down there was spectacular, from the skill level of the trophy-winning students to the wingtip shoes that made up for two parking tickets to the ropes climbed…
After returning from LA, I met up with my spiritual brother, Kadri, and my genetic brother, Jason –both equally amazing people in their own right– and started prepping for Burningman. It was my 7th year in a row. This is how I prepared:
Those are blindfolds that say trust on them. I spend most of my Wednesday blindfolded as I interacted with and experienced Burningman in a completely whole new way. But that’s a whole other story, one I will happily share soon. In the meantime, here is a little teaser or two:
To be honest, I didn’t want to take the blindfold off. When I did, it really came off.
After washing the dust off and getting a nice pedicure, I hopped on a plane to Bermuda to kick off the next leg of the Yoga of Trust world tour. That’s where I’m writing this blog post from– sitting on a veranda overlooking quiet water. There is a lighthouse about to fire up and shine. Tree frogs are singing. I am surrounded by tranquility… and coffee. Both have provided me a platform to begin catching up on all the work I’d like to share.
Next stop, Zurich, for the InsideYoga conference and a wingtip reunion. I look forward.
Enjoy, in joy!
